Devon & Cornwall - Regional news

Members of the BDPMA will recall the article in Networking about my coaching experience which was also funded by Business link.

It was a fantastic experience and one that I would encourage you all to undertake if you get the chance. The criteria below, kindly provided by Coach, Clare McNamara (www.moveahead.co.uk) sets out exactly what the requirement is so get cracking: your coaching opportunity is only a phone call away.

Let me know if you are successful!

Regards

Maggie Williams
  • It's available to any SME (small business) in the South West (Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Bristol and Avon) between 5 and 249 employees.
  • It’s done on a first come first served basis.
  • The limit to Business Link’s commitment is £1000 per company, match funded by the business (basically the business only pays 50% of the training). They can't pay for the VAT element so it's the cost excluding VAT.
  • Minimum of six hours guided training / mentoring / coaching.  It can be for one to one coaching or teamwork activities like TetraMap.
  • Delivery and invoicing has to done by 31 March 2008 and the companies then have till 30 June 2008 to submit claims.
  • Business Link will visit the company to do a short needs analysis.
  • You are eligible if you have had PACE money in the past, though there will probably be De Minimis terms attached.

Our approach to registering DCPs
Maggie Williams, Practice Manager of Exeter Orthodontics and BDPMA Regional Co-ordinator for Devon & Cornwall
says

There are many articles in the dental press regarding registering DCPs.

We have registered all our nurses, four of whom are qualified and one who has registered on experience. The process was lengthy, wordy and costly but as a practice we decided it was essential to complete sooner rather than later.

We have met the cost of registration and indemnity for the staff and will continue to do so for the duration of their employment here. Should they choose to move on (howls of despair from the PM) then the cost of the remaining months will be deducted from her final pay cheque.

Hopefully our staff feel will feel valued as a result of our investment in their career and we will all benefit from CPD.

I downloaded forms from the GDC web site which I think have since been simplified as they were very long and complicated!

Don’t delay as registration is now a fact of our professional life and a good thing too.

I would love to circulate details of how other practices in the region have approached this issue. Please email your practice's approach to m.williams@exeterortho.co.uk
