Backing up or Cracking up!
What happens when your server that links 14 computers is turned off and will not reboot?
- try to reboot
- call in computer maintenance team
- panic
This is exactly what happened 18 months ago. It took 3 days to retrieve the information on our back up tapes; during which time we were unable to book any appointments and more embarrassingly on the third day we had to ask each patient their name and what treatment they were having as we had no idea what was going on.
Lessons Learned…
Whilst we still use back up tapes in our server daily, all our data is now transferred each night to our system support partners who we have a service agreement with thus ensuring that problems in the future can be rectified quickly with minimal impact on the practice and the patients.
