The BDPMA & Henry Schein Career Development Grant (CDG)

CDGWe should all be aware of the need to work within our competences, but what happens when we meet a challenge at work? We feel unconfident to tackle a new payroll system, management budgets may go over our heads, and marketing segments – well isn’t that something to do with selling chocolate oranges?

As a practice manager our professional remit is broad, and I’m sure there are areas in which we are not as adept as we would like to be. The CDG offers one manager, through the provision of a £2500 grant, the opportunity to undertake a professional qualification that transforms weaknesses into strengths.

Congratulations to Mandy Bishop, the 2008 CDG winner

“It is my vision to provide the best possible service and experience to our patients.” So says Mandy Bishop, Practice Manager of Ravat and Ray Dental Care, and Highfield Dental Practice, and the 2008 recipient of the BDPMA and Henry Schein Career Development Grant.

The 2008 Grant was launched on the Henry Schein stand at the 2007 BDTA Showcase. As part of the BDPMA’s focus to equip managers to meet the challenges of a more commercially-focused and competitive dental marketplace, the requirement for 2008 entrants was to look ahead 12 months to determine which aspects of their patients’ experiences needed to change to deliver real value.

A delighted Mandy said, “I could not believe it when they announced my name as the winner. I was elated, overjoyed, surprised - I could go on but the top and bottom of it is; I am ecstatic.”

Simon Gambold, VP of Dental Sales & Marketing for Henry Schein, said, “Henry Schein is very pleased to be working with the BDPMA on the development of skills for practice managers and once again sponsoring the Career Development Grant.”

New BDPMA Chairman, Teresa Witchell was delighted for Mandy. She said, “Mandy represents the tenacity so inherent in great practice managers. Not only is she new to the role and the industry, but she recognised her limitations and focused on ways of overcoming them – like entering the Grant for a chance to win £2500 towards professional development.”

Previous winners have taken huge strides forward in confidence and skill as a result of the development they have undertaken; next time it could be you.
