Q Handling Breakages
What is the best policy to deal with breakages in the practice caused by
team members? A very delicate subject without causing offence I have
found. Your advice would be greatly appreciated
A You don’t mention whether the breakages are deliberate or accidental so we will assume accidental which obviously rules out criminal damage.
Nothing lasts forever! For general wear and tear of everyday equipment, the practice owner should be prepared to accept responsibility for replacing these items. If the item of equipment was being used in the correct manner and simply broke I’m sure most practices would accept that as wear and tear.
There is no harm in ensuring that all staff know how to use, clean, and sterilise equipment correctly and occasional reminders in this respect will help re-enforce correct use.
