Q Recording batch numbers on Local Anaesthetic.
The principal wants to keep a computer record on each patient’s notes of the batch number each time he uses LA. (We use Exact by SOE) The associate thinks this is overkill and we don’t have to record the batch number each and every time…what do you in your practice?
A
For the most current answer regarding legislation on recording of batch numbers, we recommend that you contact your principal’s Dental Protection Agency.
We can understand why your principal wants to do this, and we believe that once the associate sees how simple it is, he will be more understanding of the benefit both to the practice and the patients. We are also users of Exact, and we record batch numbers so we know the procedure is quite simple.
I assume that you are using a code for the administering of LA. Simply attach a custom screen to this code and then each time you use a cartridge, you can select what type of LA has been used and also record the expiry date & batch number.
We even go as far as having the nurse read the expiry date out loud to the dentist as she hands him the LA. This gives the patient the confidence to know that you are checking.
